Bradford and Airedale Health and Lifestyle Survey 2007/08
This report presents findings from the 2007/8 Lifestyle Survey conducted in Bradford and Airedale. The survey was commissioned by NHS Bradford and Airedale.
Objectives
The survey was a larger-scale follow-up to that conducted in the Bradford City area in 2005. The core objectives of this 2007/08 survey were:
- To undertake a population survey of health and lifestyle determinants using a representative sample of residents from the area.
- Use an appropriate methodology to ensure the inclusion of different subgroups of residents from across the area.
- Provide data at ward and locality level across the district.
- As in 2005, provide a report of key findings from the survey.
The survey was conducted by Information by Design (IbyD), using firstly, a postal survey with telephone follow-up; and secondly, by face-to-face interviewing using a team of locally recruited interviewers.
Both telephone and face-to-face interviewers were able to cover the wide range of languages and dialects needed to ensure that the different communities in Bradford and Airedale participated in the survey. This report gives the main results from the survey and is supported by tables of data which are available from the NHS Bradford and Airedale public health team.
The report is structured as follows:
-
Section 2 provides a summary of the methodology used to conduct the health and lifestyle survey
-
Section 3 gives a profile of residents responding to the survey
-
Section 4 provides a housing profile of respondents and gives information on aspects of housing conditions.
-
Section 5 gives details of respondents’ general health including self-reported health, mental health, and body mass index.
-
Sections 6-9 provide a summary of the survey results for various aspects of lifestyle – specifically food and diet, tobacco and smoking, and physical activity.
