The Communications function is the first point of contact for all media enquiries and is part of the Patient and Public Engagement team.

The core areas that all communications managers deal with are:
- Internal communications
- Media management (proactive publicity, dealing with media enquiries, support in a crisis)
- Corporate image
- Publications
- Commissioning print and design
- Marketing
- Advertising
- Webcasts
In addition to the core responsibilities, each manager has specific areas in which they lead.
Patient and Public Engagement Team
The patient and public engagement team comprises communications and improving the patient experience (IPE).
The team comes under the primary care and public engagement directorate.
